ICDC Professor Allan Bell's Guidebook to Sociolinguistics now available
In 2013, ICDC Professor Allan Bell celebrated the publication of his major international text — The Guidebook to Sociolinguistics — published by Wiley-Blackwell. It received enthusiastic endorsements from distinguished colleagues and was officially launched in New Zealand at the Fourth NZ Discourse Conference.
The 386-page text book which took several years to complete offers a comprehensive overview of sociolinguistics including multilingualism, language choice, style and variation and includes exercises for students with a focus on assisting them in developing their own research projects.
The text targets students of all levels and introduces them to both the content of the field and to how to conduct sociolinguistic research.
Numerous examples and exercises illustrate the discipline and its findings, and students are led through the steps to undertake their own research projects. The book includes examples and case studies from Allan's own research experience.
